François Auguste René Rodin (1840 1917), known as Auguste Rodin was generally considered the progenitor of modern sculpture. His most recognized sculptures are The Thinker and The Kiss. A prolific artist, he created thousands of busts, figures, and sculptural fragments over more than five decades. He painted in oils and in watercolors. The Musée Rodin holds 7,000 of his drawings and prints, in chalk and charcoal. Durin88ig his later creative years, Rodin's work turned increasingly toward the female form, and themes of more overt masculinity and femininity. He concentrated on small dance studies and produced numerous erotic drawings, sketched in a loose way, without taking his pencil from the paper or his eyes from the model. This book contains a lengthy introduction to Rodin and his works, followed by 60 exquisite full colour reproductions of his finest sculptures. This very large format book, 112 pages measuring 362mm X 260mm, is in fine condition. The book s dust jacket is in near-fine condition and is now enclosed in a protective mylar wrap.
