Synopsis

This book aims to prepare candidates for the Chartered Institute of Bankers' examination, "Practice of Banking 2" and is illustrated with case studies based on questions taken from previous papers. The test subjects - current developments, lending problems and marketing opportunities in the field of financial services, are discussed in full. The examination seeks to test the candidate's ability to understand the principles of good lending and its application to the problems of personal and small company customers. In this regard it seeks an ability to prepare, interpret and criticize accounting statements, including balance sheets and profit and loss accounts, funds flow statements, budgets and cash flow forecasts. It also requires a sound knowledge of bank specialist services and how they can best be marketed, rival financial competition and an ability to identify branch target markets. The authors recommend that candidates obtain the current syllabus of the Chartered Institute of Bankers before embarking on this course of study.

The work is designed to give inexperienced bankers not only the basic knowledge essential for this examination, but also for their duties in their respective banks, particularly in the support role of manager's clerk.
