This work is primarily intended as a follow-up to BP239 "Getting the most from your Multimeter", and also should be of value to anyone who already understands the basics of voltage testing and simple component testing. Throroughly testing some components requires specialized and expensive equipment. In some cases there would not seem to be equipment of the right type available at any price. By using the techniques described in chapter 1, the reader can test and analyze the performance of a range of components with just a multimeter (plus a very few inexpensive components in some cases). Some useful quick check methods are also covered. While a multimeter is supremely versatile, it does have its limitations. The simple ad-ons described in chapter 2 extend the capabilities of a multimeter to make it even more useful. The add-ons described include an active R.F. probe, a high resistance probe, an A.C. sensitivity booster, and a current tracer unit.
