Synopsis
George Seferis (1900-1971) was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1963. Truthful and magical, his poetry has captivated both Greek and foreign readers. Aptly described by Charlotte Du Cann as 'the unlocker of ancient stones and sea voyages', Seferis was for Peter Levi 'one of the greatest writers in this century in any language...From Seferis it was possible to learn...what seriousness about poetry is'.

About the Author
Edmund Keeley is a novelist and critic as well as translator of Greek poetry. He lives in Princeton, NJ. With Philip Sherrard he also edited Odysseus Elytis's `Selected Poems' (1981), and collaborated on selections from Cavafy and Sikelianos.
Philip Sherrard (1922-1995) lived on the island of Evia. His many works include two well-known studies of modern Greek literature, `The Marble Threshing Floor' and `The Wound of Greece'. His selected poems `In the Sign of the Rainbow' was published in 1996.
