From a post war stopgap for agricultural use it has risen to be the worlds premier four-wheel drive vehicle. In this book the Land Rover’s evolution and development are described for the first 40 years that is to the introduction of the first Range Rovers. George Mackie created the Special Projects Dept and ran it until his retirement in 1981.Ken and Julie Slavin have spent some 15 years using these vehicles in remote and inhospitable parts of the world. There is a comprehensive appendix on specifications, statistics and historical detail and a collection of remarkable photographs.
