This book, the first substantive study of Jelinek's writing, explains how these modern myths are translated and re-worked in Jerlinek's fiction and how, by means of parody, satire, commentary and other linguistic and narrative and dramatic strategies, Jelinek suggests that the 'reality' of life is more accurately portrayed by her own very negative and exaggerated picture of brutality, ignorance and perversion.
