Synopsis

This book advances the quintessential Groddeckian theory that the whole body, sick or sound, is the instument of the mind. In all Groddeck's writing, whether on purely medical matters or on the arts, one can see the true vision of the intuitive artist. His warmth of personality and practical common sense also shine through. The book includes Groddeck's controversial paper, "The It and the Gospels", which puts forward his concept of the Cross as a symbol of the mother. Georg Walter Groddeck spent his early years as a writer and then, in middle life, qualified as a doctor, becoming director of a clinic at Baden-Baden where he remained until his death in 1934. He has also written "The Book of It" and "The Unknown Self".
