It explains the structure of the industry and the special positions of both tour operator and travel agent; the responsibilities of tour operators; financial security and insolvency; the position of the travel agent; liability for false and misleading statements; the circumstances in which a claim may be brought and the likely damages; and the role of the providers of transport and accommodation. This third edition follows the Regulations implementing the EC Directive on Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours. The Regulations introduce wide-ranging criminal offences and civil liabilities for both tour operators and travel agents in respect of marketing, sale and performance of package holidays. In addition, they impose compulsory requirements to provide financial stability.
