Synopsis

Developed by three of the world's leading experts in the field, this book provides a concise and readable overview of water treatment and is the definitive reference for all those involved with water treatment systems. Presenting not only the basics of water treatment, but also the theoretical support necessary for the student and specialist, this third edition has been fully revised and extensively updated. The main water quality parameters that drive the need for water treatment are discussed, and extensive data on water quality standards are included. The scope of the book has been extended to include advanced water treatment processes, and the sections on coagulation, clarification and filtration have been updated. New processes such as carbon adsorption and membrane processes are considered, and the coverage of disinfection has been expanded to include alternative disinfectants. Treatment and disposal of waste streams and water demands are also discussed. Examples of worked calculations, a glossary and a comparison of EU, USA and WHO water quality standards are included in the Appendices. Basic Water Treatment, 3rd Edition is an essential purchase for water engineers at all levels: it is a textbook for students, a handbook for engineers and chemists, but most of all an indispensable guide full of useful practical information for the established practitioner.
