This third edition of this work has been expanded and modernized in line with the development of the role of the computer in industrial design and manufacture. Engineers and designers will find the new chapters covering robotics, automated guided vehicles, flexible manufacturing systems, and integrated CAD/CAM systems informative and useful. Earlier sections of the book have been updated to reflect new research and development with a chapter covering solid modelling, an increasingly important aspect of design and simulation. There is a chapter introducing computers to CAD "newcomers" which shows how they contribute to CAD work and which further describes the hardware and software implications of the use of computers. The areas describing 2-D graphics and 3-D modelling are illustrated by the basic mathematics of transformations upon which sections of graphics software are based. This book is intended to be of use to those who have a requirement to practise, research or study the practical aspects of CAD/CAM, but who have no in-depth knowledge of computing.
