Providing an overview of contemporary research with advanced robotic systems, this volume surveys recent applications and highlights a number of concepts and procedures which may influence future directions in the field. The first section covers the basic generic technologies involved in the evolution of advanced robots. Section 2 is concerned with a range of practical applications. It also contains a number of surveys of uses in specific domains. The final section focuses on emerging technologies such as microrobotics, learning systems and co-operant robotic behaviour.
