These guidelines are intended to provide guidance on a specific technique developed for use in the chemical and process industries. This technique is HAZOP study - a detailed method for systematic examination of a well-defined process or operation, either planned or existing. With input from 22 EPSC member companies, these guidelines describe and illustrate the HAZOP study method, showing a variety of uses and some of the approaches that have been successful within the process industries. HAZOP study is versatile and results may be achieved by several different approaches.
IChemE, the Institution of Chemical Engineers, is the center for chemical, biochemical and process engineering professionals worldwide.

These guidelines are intended to provide guidance on a specific technique developed for use in the chemical and process industries. This technique is HAZOP study - a detailed method for systematic examination of a well-defined process or operation, either planned or existing. ICI developed the HAZOP study method in the '60s and the CIA guide, published in 1977 encouraged development. Since then it has become, for many, the choice technique for hazard identification in new designs, processes and operations. With input from 22 EPSC member companies, these guidelines describe and illustrate the HAZOP study method, showing a variety of uses and some of the approaches that have been successful within the process industries. HAZOP study is versatile and results may be achieved by several different approaches. It is hoped that by using these guidelines a high standard for HAZOP study within the industry will be maintained. Process documentation, pilot plant and hazard laboratory operations as well as tasks such as commissioning, decommissioning, emergency operations and incident investigation are all successfully applied to HAZOP study.
These guidelines serve to help the process industries to standardize best practice, and should help those with responsibilities within safety management systems and for HAZOP study readers, scribes and members. It should also aid in training of existing staff and in plant management."About this title" may belong to another edition of this title.
