How do you manage and develop the careers of your staff in today's rapidly moving world of work? The concept of career development is changing as people move jobs more and more frequently and a job for life just doesn't exist anymore. Using case studies from top companies, "Career Development" provides step-by-step guidance on these issues. Up-to-date and to the point, the guide: explains recruitment and reward, training and coaching - helps with crucial issues such as succession planning, lateral moves and secondments - considers the particular needs of specialist groups, such as women, flexible workers and workers in SMEs - provides useful examples demonstrating the advantages of development centres and career action centres. This Good Practice guide will help you understand and develop the competencies required for good career development, including negotiation and communication, coaching and performance appraisal. Helpful action plans and checklists are provided.
