About this title

Synopsis

As heard on Radio 4, starring Smack the Pony's Sally Philips, this is the only collection available of one of the wittiest cartoon strips around."Clare in the Community" has established itself as one of the wittiest and funniest cartoon strips around. Intense, earnest and never, ever prey to prejudice or pomposity, Clare the social worker endures the endless trials of bombed-out estates and byzantine bureaucracy in a job that would be a whole lot easier but for the tiresome necessity of having to deal with members of the public...All social workers, teachers and those who work in local government will recognize Clare's problems and pretensions, but this is a cartoon book that everyone will find funny and touching (for its observations about the tensions of office life, its satire of political self-righteousness and the bigotry of those most proud to be free of prejudice, and simply the artful eye for the comic detail that distinguishes the truly skilful cartoonist.
