No. 92220 was completed at Swindon Works in 1960 and was the very last steam locomotive to be built for Britain's state railways operator and owner - British Railways. It was the final unit of 999 steam locomotives built from the British Railways standard designs which had been the guiding force in locomotive design and construction since nationalisation in 1948. These locomotives were originally designed for fast freight duties, but occasionally set forth pulling express passenger trains.
