Synopsis
During the medieval period, scribes produced some of the most beautiful illuminated manuscripts the world has ever seen. This book attempts to offer an introduction to seven of the formal writing styles used during the Middle Ages, describing the materials and techniques and advising on how to achieve the best results. Basic letter formation is explained using the author's own line drawings as a guide. The finished result is demonstrated through examples from authentic manuscripts. The book is designed for the use of those who have some experience in calligraphy. The author has taught calligraphy for over 30 years and is now a freelance calligrapher, commercial artist and designer. He has also written "Basic Penmanship".
