(2004, 55 minutes) Karl Jenkins' Requiem sets the traditional Latin text of the Requiem mass, including the extra movements included by Faure and Durufle Pie Jesu and In paradisum . These are interspersed with haiku "death" poems (sung in Japanese) whose delicate, epigrammatic texts provide a peaceful commentary on the liturgical words. Diese Gedichte haben üblicherweise Szenen aus der Natur zum Inhalt, vermitteln nur einen einzigen Gedanken und bestehen aus siebzehn Silben, die sich im Silbenmuster 5-7-5 über drei Zeilen erstrecken. Wie man dem Text entnehmen kann, betrachten die Japaner den natürlichen Wasserkreislauf (Niederschlag) als Synonym des Lebens. Westliche und östliche Texte werden in den beiden Haiku-Sätzen 'Having Seen The Moon' und 'Farewell' miteinander verbunden, darunter das 'Benedictus' bzw. das 'Agnus Dei'. Beide werden von Männerstimmen wie Mönchsgesang intoniert, als Kontrapunkt zu dem von Frauen gesungenen japanischen Text. Die Besetzung dieser Haiku-Vertonungen umfasst u.a. die Shakuhachi, ein altes japanisches Blasinstrument. An anderer Stelle hat Jenkins wie üblich einige ethnische Trommeln (z.
