Synopsis

This new title in Boydell & Brewer's Angling Library presents the shared knowledge and expertise of the members of the Chub Study-Group. The club was founded 21 years ago, and has focused on the chub's habits to a point where the behaviour and habitat of the fish in the various locations where it is found are now more fully understood, and are here explained for the benefit of other anglers. During the years of the club's existence, the record chub has increased from the 3 to 4 pounders of the 1960s to 7lb 2oz in 1992, and this interesting fish is an increasingly popular challenge to anglers. As with other titles in the series, a thorough understanding of the biology of the chub precedes discussion of methods of taking. The section on natural history and behaviour encompasses issues ranging from shape to sensory perception. Special contributions on chub in the Wye, in Yorkshire, and in the Hampshire Avon figure in the section on habitat, which encompasses both rivers and stillwaters. On catching chub, experts look at chub behaviour in different locations at different times of the year before embarking on the details of tactics and baits, future developments and continuing areas of inquiry.
