A collection of articles and despatches drawn from 100 years of reports filed to the "Daily Telegraph" by its horse racing correspondents. It gives the essential flavour of each of those twelve months of racing, on the flat and over the jumps. There are contemporary reports from on-the-spot Telegraph correspondents such as LOrd Oaksey, Tony Stafford and the "Hotspur" form-assessor, some of whom also contribute special feature-length articles. Their reports recall great moments and personalities of racing history, from the great Derby meetings of the Victorian era, and the great horses and jockeys of the late 19th century (among them Fred Archer and George Fordham), through to their latter-day successors such as Sir Gordon Richards and Lester Pigott. Also included are modern jumping triumphs, such as Red Rum's marvellous three-times Grand National success, and the best racing stories from overseas events like the Breeders Cup and Arc de Triomphe. Norman Barrett also compiled "The Daily Telegraph Chronicle of Cricket".
