For the air forces, D-Day was the culmination of many months of preliminary operations; this illustrated account profiles the actions of RAF Bomber and Coastal Commands and USAAF bombers.

R.L.T. Bickers has written more books about the RAF and its predecessor, the RFC, than any other author past or present - some under a pseudonym. His biography of his friend 'Ginger' Lacey, the top-scoring pilot in the Battle of Britain, was published to acclaim in 1962. He volunteered for the RAF on the outbreak of war and served, with a Permanent Commission, for eighteen years. In England he operated with Fighter and Coastal Commands; in North Africa and Italy with the Desert Air Force and Mediterranean Allied Coastal Air Force. After the war he did a tour in Hong Kong and Malaya.
He describes the war of the men on the ground, the crews who serviced the planes and the Airfield.

Seller: Chapter Two Books, Ammanford, United Kingdom
hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Air War Normandy by Richard Townshend Bickers is a concise, highly readable account of the aerial dimension of the Normandy campaign, charting how Allied air power shaped the success of Operation Overlord from D-Day through the breakout from the beachhead. Bickers covers the strategic bombing that softened German infrastructure, the tactical air support that crippled armour and supply lines, and the intense air battles fought over the invasion corridor. Drawing on pilot testimonies, operational records, and his trademark narrative clarity, he highlights the coordination between air and ground forces and the decisive role of air superiority in the campaignâs outcome. A strong addition for collectors of WWII aviation history. Seller Inventory # mon0001644543
