About the Author
Sir John Fletcher-Cooke was Senior Exhibitioner and a Kitchener Scholar at St. Edmund Hall, Oxford, and graduated with First Class Honours in 1932. After three years as as Assistant Principal in the Colonial Office, he applied to be transferred overseas and was posted to Malaya. As described in this book, he was driven out of his District by the invading Japanese in 1941 and, having joined the R.A.F. in Singapore, was captured in Java. From 1964 to 1966 he was a Member of Parliament for Southampton (Test). He died in May, 1989.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. **Inscribed by the author** Reprint (1972). VG+ 8vo hardcover in a G+ dj. Lengthy personalized inscription by John Fletcher-Cooke dated 17th March, 1974 opposite the title page. Remainding contents are clean and firmly bound although a few leaves near the end have some creasing in the fore-edge margin. Touch of dust-staining to the text block edges. Red cloth boards are lightly bumped in the spine head and tail, and there is a small dent on the top edge of the upper board. The dj is price-clipped, has some discoloration along the fore edge and other light wear but no tears, heavy creasings. NOT an ex-library copy! Seller Inventory # w6007
