Synopsis
The regulation of gene expression is a rapidly progressing area of research. Recent studies indicate that protein-protein interactions, in addition to protein-nucleic acid interactions, may play a vital role in the regulation of many genes. The role of the many components involved in this process including cis-acting DNA sequences and trans-acting protein factors are characterized in this new book. A broad array of topics on the regulation of gene expression are examined, including a comprehensive examination of DNA-protein interactions and a consideration of mechanisms by which oncogene proteins affect normal and abnormal gene expression. The book focuses on the control of mRNA transcription in eukaryotes and delineates other areas including gene regulation in prokaryotes and control of stable RNA synthesis. Other topics examined include the control of mRNA splicing and translational regulations.
