Synopsis
Phyllis Van Orden, former President of the Association for Library Service to Children, has compiled an annotated bibliography designed to facilitate the location of English-language materials about public library services children and children's librarianship. Integrating diverse and often unpublished materials, more than 300 entries focus on policy literature, historical works, research studies, reports, and conference studies not readily identified in any other source. Rich in subject headings, the forms of literature represented include annual reports, biographies, bibliographies, directories, books, dissertations, conference proceedings, policies, standards, and guidelines. Works from the turn of the century are included and an analysis of these writings documents the evolving place of children's services in public libraries and the changing role of children's librarians. Individuals or groups responsible for planning, evaluating, or improving children's services or the education of children's librarians will find numerous items to assist them. They are all available through interlibrary loan or purchase and source and cost information are provided, includes author, title, and subject indexes.
