Synopsis

This introduction traces the development from Jesus to Paul, his encounter with Christ on the road to Damascus, the theological and pastoral concerns expressed in his letters, the picture of Paul in Acts, his background, social world and legacy. Key themes are explored in relation to modern issues such as feminism ("no longer male and female"), race ("no longer Jew or Greek") and liberation ("no longer slave or free"). Theological doctrines such as Atonement, Christology and Ecclesiology are discussed in relation to the rest of the New Testament and modern concerns, and a summary is offered of the main interpretations of Paul current today.

About the Author

David G. Horrell is Lecturer in New Testament Studies in the Department of Theology at the University of Exeter and has taught Paul for nearly fifteen years. He is the author of The Social Ethos of the Corinthian Correspondence.
