Four lectures from a September 1994 meeting at the Field's Institute in Canada, designed to introduce graduate students and senior researchers to some of the methods being used and some of the problems being tackled in current research involving operator theory. They cover infinite matrices and projection methods, ordinary differential operators, operators on indefinite inner product spaces, and the state space theory of rational matrix functions and applications.
