Recommendations are given on the choice of the most suitable model for a given practical situation. A mathematical appendix presents two lemmas that are useful for derivation of sampling formulas in multi-stage sampling.

About the Author

Palmer O. Johnson was a professor of statistics and education at the University of Minnesota. He is the author of Curricular Problems in Science at the College Level (Minnesota, 1930) and Aspects of Land Grant College Education (Minnesota, 1934). Munamarty S. Rao was a research associate at the University of Minnesota and an industrial statistical consultant.
