Synopsis
The Cancer Dictionary, Third Edition is a common-sense approach to one of the most wide-spread and dreaded diseases in the United States. ""The Cancer Dictionary, Third Edition"" is meant to provide the cancer patient and general public with easy access to areas of information that are often hard to locate, or when found, are hard for the layperson to understand. Coverage includes the individual cancers - causes, incidence, symptoms, diagnosis, stages and treatments, diagnostic tests, surgical procedures, therapeutic drugs, types of radiation therapy, biological therapy, side effects, risk factors, carcinogens, prevention, support services, and organizations. Some typical entries include breast cancer, bone marrow transplantation, laser therapy, pap smear, statin, tamoxifen, and tumor. Also included are noteworthy Web sites of national organizations for cancer and AIDS, comprehensive cancer centers by state, and clinical cancer centers by state, as well as a bibliography and an index.

About the Author
Michael J. Sarg, M.D., is associate chief of medical oncology at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York, and a member of the teaching faculty of the St. Vincent's Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Center, as well as associate professor of clinical medicine at New York Medical College. Ann D. Gross, M.A., who has an M.A. in gerontology, is Principal of AD Gross and Co., a healthcare communications firm specializing in providing strategic services to management, including consulting, training, development/fundraising, writing, and editing. She holds an B.A. in English from Cornell University and an M.A. in gerontology from the University of Southern California (USC), and was among the first eight students to graduate from USC's ""Ageworks"" program at the Leonard Davis School of Gerontology. She resides in New York, NY.
