This biographical encyclopedia describes more than 150 women who made important contributions to science, including both historical and contemporary figures from all over the world. It explains their work and also tells the stories of their lives and the obstacles that many had to overcome (in some cases their very lives were threatened by their choice of a career). It includes many quotes from the women themselves or those who knew them, describing their personalities and feelings about science (to many it was "fun") as well as their work. More than a mere dictionary presenting bare facts, this book is intended to inspire as well as inform anyone, but especially young women, who are interested in science.
