Synopsis
Designed to serve as a readily accessible, yet detailed reference of functional and neuro-anatomic brain imaging for clinical consultation. MR, CT, and ultrasound images are paired with correlative cross-sectional anatomical photographs, schematic diagrams, tables and charts to facilitate the reader in recognizing and diagnosing lesions in all areas of the adult and neonatal brain. This book contains material concerning brain anatomy and function which has been gathered from a wide range of clinical papers and anatomic atlases. It can also be used as a textbook to provide the student with a practical, current, and detailed core of information on the functional and neuro-anatomic imaging of the normal brain. The anatomy of the neonatal brain, adult brain, cerebellum and vermis, cerebrospinal fluid spaces, and cerebral vessels is presented in the 6 atlas chapters and discussed in the companion chapters. Additional chapters provide specific information to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning. Chapter 8 diagrams and describes key symptoms caused by lesions at each juncture of the cranial nerves; chapter 12 covers the size and configuration of the ventricles and cisternal spaces; chapter 15 aids interpretation of conventional or MR arteriography of brain masses detected on axial imaging studies and helps determine anticipated vessel displacement; and chapter 16 provides anatomic-functional correlation of cerebrovascular territories using sets of axial and coronal brain diagrams. The last two chapters cover the neurosecretory regions and sella and parsellar structures.
