About the Author

Arnold Krochmal is Adjunct Professor, Forestry, North Carolina State University at Raleigh; Adjunct Professor, Biology, University of North Carolina at Asheville; and Honorary Research Associate, Institute of Economic Botany, The New York Botanical Garden. He is the retired Principal Economic Botanist for the U.S. Forest Service and has studied the uses of wild plants of forest and field from Afghanistan to Honduras.

Connie Krochmal was raised on an Appalachian farm in Harlan County, Kentucky, where the lore of plant use is part of everyday life. She has shared a Senior Research Fellowship at the Agricultural University, Wageningen, The Netherlands, and with her husband was a guest of the Main Botanical Garden, Moscow, and Jardin Uribe, Medellin, Colombia, lecturing on medicinal plants.
