About the Author

Russell Freedman is the distinguished recipient of the Newbery Medal, three Newbery Honors, the Sibert Medal, the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award, and the May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture Award for his body of work. His many nonfiction titles include The Voice That Challenged a Nation: Marian Anderson and the Struggle for Equal Rights and Children of the Great Depression. Mr. Freedman travels widely to research his books, and he makes his home in New York City.
