Synopsis
The High Sierra: Wilderness of Light takes us on a majestic tour of one of the world's preeminent mountain ranges: the Sierra Nevada. Photographer and climber Claude Fiddler has traveled far off the beaten path to capture these startling and beautiful images of a remote wilderness that remains intact, pristine, and unscathed by human footsteps and the passage of time. Combining his mountaineering skills with a large-format camera adapted for back-country expeditions, Fiddler brings to light the hidden grottos, meadows, cirques, and peaks of the Sierra rarely glimpsed by the wiliest backpacker - and never before revealed in book form.
These images of the unchanging Sierra wilderness have been matched with classic writings by the first Sierra pioneers who bravely clambered through the uncharted territories of what are now Yosemite National Park, King's Canyon National Park, Sequoia National Park, and Inyo National Forest.
