Synopsis
A large collection of Mark Rothko's work is held by New York's five encyclopedic art museums - the Brooklyn Museum, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. This volume illustrates every work by Rothko in these museums in colour reproductions and surveys his entire career. Whilst Rothko is most famous for his color-field canvases, he also created early oils and watercolors. This work focuses on how working in New York shaped Rothko's career and examines the question of what it means to be an artist in this city.

Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 144 pages. Hardcover exhibition catalogue, bound in black cloth covered boards and wrapped in an illustrated paper dustjacket. Light shelfwear and sunning to the edges of the boards, with slight scuffing and light soiling to the dustjacket, although now encased in a Mylar sleeve. There is also some barely perceptible foxing on the first two and last two pages. Else, the binding is tight, the corners of the boards sharp, and the interior clean and free of other markings.
