J.Norman Heard's Bookman's Guide to Americana has been a standard reference in the antiquarian book trade for almost four decades. The tenth edition, compiled by Lee Shiflett, contains price quotations for approximately 10,000 titles relating to the history, culture, and literature of the Americas. The prices quoted are derived from booksellers' catalogs issued since the ninth edition of the Guide (Heard and Hamsa, 1986).

Lee Shiflett (MLS, Rutgers; PhD, Library & Information Science, Florida State), Associate Professor, SLIS, Louisiana State University, has been a specialist in collection development and acquisitions as a librarian and teacher for twenty years. His research interests are in American library history, and he is author of The origins of American Academic Librarianship (1981).
