First published in Russian in 1974, Live and Remember was immediately hailed by Soviet critics as a superb if atypical example of war literature and a moving depiction of the degradation and ultimate damnation of a frontline deserter. The novel tells the story of a Siberian peasant who makes a tragic miscalculation by deserting in the last year of the war, and of the loyal wife who embraces his fate as her own.

Paperback. Condition: Good. Live and Remember (1992) ? Valentin Rasputin Publisher: Northwestern University Press Sold by: Crappy Old Books Grim. Beautiful. Russian. In Live and Remember , Valentin Rasputin drops you straight into the snowy moral fog of Siberia at the tail end of WWII. This isn?t your typical war novel?it?s about a deserter hiding in shame, a village wrestling with silence, and one woman caught between love and loyalty. Rasputin?s prose hits like a frostbitten gut punch: sparse, poetic, and brutally human. Translated from the Russian with all the soul intact, this 1992 edition from Northwestern University Press is perfect for readers who like their literature heavy, their characters conflicted, and their pages slightly yellowed (hey, we are Crappy Old Books). Whether you?re a Russian lit veteran or just in the mood for something darker than your last existential crisis, Live and Remember will stick with you?like snow in your boots. Condition as new.
