Seller: Sue Lloyd-Davies Books, CARMARTHEN, United Kingdom
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. Reprint. From the prestigiously-bound Time-Life series "Classics of The Old West". A 1981 Facsimile reprint of the First edition of 1859, it preserves the historical authenticity including typographical errors and printing irregularities. Hardback in brown leather boards (Time-Life actually state that these bindings are Leather, but they look more like 'leatherette' to me - but presumably the publishers know what they are talking about? ) with Bright Gilt titling to the front cover and spine. The front cover has a blind-stamped illustration to the lower third of the cover, which is a uniform illustration on all these 'Classics of the Old West' series and has the Title 'Classics of the Old West' picked out in gilt. 3 raised bands on the spine with gilt titling and a blind stamped decoration of a Wig-Wham to the lower half of the spine. (With very light negligible speck marks to the rear cover and a couple of tiny scratches to the page fore-edges, Otherwise As New). Silk headbands and a yellow-gold ribbon bookmark. As New/No Jacket. All page fore-edges bright Gilt. This is a Lovely Facsimile reprint. No Inscriptions or other Marks. Marbled endpapers. (xiii) + 340 pp. With a b/w Frontispiece engraving of 'Fort Smith, Arkansas' and with some full page b/w engravings in the rest of the book. Complete with the original integral yellow ribbon bookmark, the loose leaf 'details of the book', and the specially provided Time Life 'Ex Libris' bookplate provided as a loose leaf for the new owner to use. I currently have about 5 other 'Classics of The Old West' books in a uniform binding in the same series - please enquire if interested. Almost all in a similar condition. An Excellent Very Clean, Tight and Bright 'Fine' copy. Looks unread. "Like most great prizes, the Golden West was won only by hard work, by the surmounting of formidable obstacles and by the daring of great perils. Drawing his instruction from a quarter century of experience in the infinitely varied terrain and climatic conditions of the frontiers, Marcy carefully explains how best to undertake the hard work, how to surmount the obstacles, how to survive the perils." ; Classics of the Old West; 8vo 8" - 9" tall.
