I feel that Part 1 is on a very high level of critical intellectual history, and that the exposition of Gestalt ideas is excellent, and in some respects original. All this amply justifies the book. Charles Hartshorne in "Philosophy and Phenomenological Research "(1954) Frondizi s book, as a critical and constructive analysis of the nature of the self from the standpoint of empirical philosophy, is a competent and timely contribution to this fundamental problem.
