Jock Lauterer is lecturer in journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and founding director of the Carolina Community Media Project at the university's School of Journalism and Mass Communication. He was founding coeditor-publisher of two award-winning North Carolina community newspapers and is author of several books, including Runnin' on Rims and Wouldn't Take Nothin' for My Journey Now.
Regarded as the primary textbook and sourcebook for the teaching and practice of local journalism and newspaper publishing in the U.S., this book addresses the issues a small-town newspaper writer or publisher is likely to face, from why community journalism is important and distinctive; to hints for reporting, news writing, and feature writing with a "community spin"; to handling design, production, photojournalism, and staff management. This edition includes a new "Best Practices" chapter for online newspapers.
