Synopsis
The well-known fable of the Three Little Pigs gets a makeover in this efficient counting guide for beginning readers. The first little pig uses 5 bundles of straw to build a house in the shape of a cylinder, but the wolf blows it down. Using 6 big sticks and sheets to build a cone-shaped house, the second little pig is also unsuccessful at keeping the wolf at bay. Finally, the third little pig smartly gathers 100 strong bricks to build a cube-shaped house. Guess which piggy’s house finally withstands the big bad wolf’s blows? Pages at the end feature information on ordinal numbers, counting by ones and tens, and geometric shapes.

About the Author
Grace Maccarone is a children's book editor and the award-winning author of many books for children, including Miss Lina's Ballerinas, The Haunting of Grade Three, Monster Math, The Three Bears ABC, and the First Grade Friends series. She lives in New York.Pistacchio is the union of two self-taugh artists from Barcelona: Nuria Aparicio and Joan I. Guardiet. Nuria lives with her husband and two cuddly cats. She's knitting a beautiful pullover for the Wolf to make him happier. Joan is looking forward to adding this book to his library, allegedly to read it to his two daughters. His wife suspects he will secretly use it to learn to count to 100.

CHAPTER 1
Once upon a time, there was 1 mother pig.
She had 2 apples
but 3 sons.
She cut each of the apples in half to make 4 pieces. And the 4 pigs shared them.
They were still quite hungry.
"It is time for you to seek your fortunes," the mother pig said to her sons.
The first little pig met a man with 5 bundles of straw. "Please, sir, give me that straw to build a house," said the first little pig.
The man did, and the first little pig built a house in the shape of a cylinder.
A wolf came along and knocked at the door. "Little pig, little pig, let me come in."
To which the pig answered, "No! Not by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin!"
This made the wolf angry and he said, "Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house in."
