This "for kids only" guide provides step-by-step instructions for real recipes. The opening chapter translates culinary jargon - terms like "saute" - into more youthful lingo. Kids are introduced to a medley of tools and techniques and to the basics of a healthy diet geared to young taste buds. There are sections which demonstrate that not all fast food has to be junk food, and the drinks section offers refreshing alternatives to sugar-filled sodas. From breakfast in the "Good Morning" section, to the main dishes, kids can sample a variety of nutritious recipes to serve to the family or share with friends. "Sweets" and "Party Goodies" sections feature tasty morsels. Throughout the book the emphasis is on safety, and there is a full meausure of fun in every step.

It might be helpful to know that Sarah and I were young at the time this book was put together. I was still a sophmore in high school and had spent most of my time working and cooking with kids (experiential education for the book). Sarah was a few years behind me, and contributed to the production of the book by doing photo shoots and trying out recipes. She still deserves an equal amount of credit, for her work in the book shows itself to be of high quality.
You might just want to add that bit of information. It's nice to know that a book was produced by kids, for kids, and in the spirit of kid-like creativity. I have always honored the kitchen as a legitimate "studio": a place where there is the highest potential for collective creativity. I wish parents would include their kids in the meal-making process and listen to their off-the-wall suggestions. Families need to bring their liveliness and togetherness back to the activity of cooking and allow the creative little ones to experiment with one of life's most wonderful experiences: food.
