Synopsis

Designed to tempt children to make tasty snacks, drinks, main courses, desserts and unusual gifts, this book contains recipes which are easy to make. Many of them do not even involve the use of the oven at all. The recipes are written by children for children (the authors are only 13 and 17), and are made of healthy ingredients. The book includes helpful tips for success and safety in the kitchen, with notes on measuring and translations of cooking terminology.

It might be helpful to know that Sarah and I were young at the time this book was put together. I was still a sophmore in high school and had spent most of my time working and cooking with kids (experiential education for the book). Sarah was a few years behind me, and contributed to the production of the book by doing photo shoots and trying out recipes. She still deserves an equal amount of credit, for her work in the book shows itself to be of high quality.

You might just want to add that bit of information. It's nice to know that a book was produced by kids, for kids, and in the spirit of kid-like creativity. I have always honored the kitchen as a legitimate "studio": a place where there is the highest potential for collective creativity. I wish parents would include their kids in the meal-making process and listen to their off-the-wall suggestions. Families need to bring their liveliness and togetherness back to the activity of cooking and allow the creative little ones to experiment with one of life's most wonderful experiences: food.
