About the Author

Julia Johnson is Lecturer in Ageing at the Open University School of Health, Welfare and Community Education, on secondment from the University College of Swansea. Her previous publications include Welfare and the Ageing Experience (edited with Bill Bytheway, 1990).

Robert Slater is Lecturer in Psychology at the Open University School of Health, Welfare and Community Education and formerly Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Wales College of Cardiff. His publications include Tinnitus: A Guide for Sufferers and Professionals (with M Terry, 1987).
