Synopsis
Imagine sitting at the table in the galley of your sail-boat home. You’re staring at two brief cases, and a laptop computer you’ve just purchased at an auction of the foreclosed contents of self-storage units. Then, imagine opening the first case, and finding a half-million dollars inside. Hyperventilating? Sweating? Heart pounding? Not yet? Well, now imagine opening the second case, and finding a 9mm weapon with a silencer and a laser sighting scope. Is your heart beating just a little bit faster? Still cool as a cucumber? Okay, let’s go a little farther. What if you find dozens of newspaper clippings describing the mysterious deaths of prominent people over the past sixteen years. Then, you find e-mail documents on the computer that engage an international hired assassin to eliminate two DEA agents who are getting too close to shutting down a Mexican drug cartel, that just happens to be financed by major U.S. banks and investors who have also contributed substantial amounts of money to the campaign of the current President. One other small detail, you discover a Swiss bank account worth $38,000,000. Palms aren’t a little moist yet? Breathing just a little more rapidly? Boy, you must have nerves of steel. When Devonie Lace is faced with this situation, she struggles to keep her cool. Remaining calm becomes more difficult when her friend is murdered after helping her identify the weapon she’s just purchased. Serenity becomes impossible when her sail-boat home is destroyed in an explosion, and she finds herself running for her life. Devonie gathers all the courage she can muster to overcome the tremendous obstacles standing between her and safety. She must rely on her technical expertise with computers, her intelligence, her ability to reason, and just a little bit of charm. She must also rely on the help of a few close friends, and one handsome stranger. Quickly, she learns to trust no one. CIA, FBI, government officials, assassins, and the mob, are all potential hazards to Devonie’s well-being. After an exciting chase that takes her half-way around the world and back, she skillfully turns the tables on her antagonists-—and realizes a sizeable return on her investment from the auction. She also finds that she can let her guard down enough to allow the handsome stranger into her life.
