Review

"This colorful and detailed study of rodeo-the exhibition in which the cowboy's work became his sport-traces its beginnings from the early fiestas, stampedes, and roundups of the mid-19th-century American West to its development as a full-fledged entertainment spectacle. The work, originally published in 1947, remains 'the standard introduction to rodeo history.'"-New York Times Book Review New York Times Book Review "From this unembellished miscellany of data the reader gains a picture of rodeo as it really is from the inside out, with the help of facts such as that bucking broncos are born not made."-North San Antonio Times North San Antonio Times "Old photographs and lots of stories make this book just as interesting to today's rodeo fans as it was to those 40 years ago."-Western Horseman Western Horseman
