An original work in systematic theology, The Christian Story rises from, and strives to be a resource to, the life and witness of the church and its leadership. In addition to covering the standard teachings of Christianity-the doctrines of God, creation, the fall, covenant, Christ, salvation, church and consummation-Volume 1 presents Fackre's introduction to systematic theology. This revised third edition develops in more detail the doctrine of the Trinity, takes up the issues of religious pluralism and Jewish-Christian dialogue, and offers a perspective on angelology. New appendices discuss inclusive language and describe the surge of writing in the field of systematic theology.

Gabriel Fackre (1926-2018) was a theologian and ordained minister who was influential in the formation of the United Church of Christ. He taught at Lancaster Theological Seminary and Andover Newton Theological School (now Andover Newton Seminary at Yale), where he was professor emeritus of Christian theology. During his career, he served as president of the American Theological Society. He was also a prolific author who published thirty books, including the five-volume work The Christian Story.
This book is for those struggling with the question What is the Christian faith? The answer given here unfolds in the form of a story. Gabriel Fackre interprets the basic Christian beliefs as 'chapters in the biography of God, ' a narrative technique that shows the drama and dynamism of what God is doing in the world.
