From the Author

How I got involved in forensic science and about the book.
I got into forensic science in a round-about, back door way. Originally, I thought I'd like to do crime scene analysis and set out to do that. After a workshop with the eminent John Douglas, retired FBI agent, I changed my mind. Mr. Douglas provided crime scene slides and documentation for this particular class, and the material showed me I did not have the right mindset for this type of work. So I studied behavioral profiling, graphology--also known as "handwriting analysis"--and went on to become a forensic reconstruction sculptor. These disciplines allow me to rub shoulders with some of the finest scientists and investigators in the world, yet, remain on the perimeter of crime, a very interesting perch for someone like me. I hope you enjoy Forensic Science. It's from the time someone discovers a crime scene, through to who takes what evidence and, finally, what they do with it. In addition, a variety of case story scenarios help to bring the different forensic disciplines to life. Enjoy.
