The Rising Son
At the time I wrote this book, Juan had just won his second American League home run title. But no one had done a book on him. In fact, most non-Spanish-speaking sports writers shied away from him. And since I barely speak Spanish and Juan barely spoke English made it very interesting. But we got along great, and with the help of intermediary Luis Mayoral, we turned out a very good biography, especially for a player who has not played that long. The area of this book that I'm proudest of is the chapter on the history of Hispanic baseball and Roberto Clemente. Juan loves this book and has bought thousands of them to give away to kids who excel in school.
