Learn how to use the best of what WordPerfect 9 has to offer
When Read and I set out to write this book, we wanted to pack as much useful and relevant information as we could into 700+ pages. In order to do that, we had to concentrate on the quickest and most efficient ways of accomplishing a task. Sure, there are lots of ways to do the same thing--that's the beauty of WordPerfect. The problem is, you don't have time to read about all the different ways. You want someone who really knows the software to point out the quickest way to do something so you can get your job done and still have enough time to actually _go out_ for lunch. Right?
To achieve this goal, we had to make some assumptions about our readers. We know that many of you have used a word processor before; the vast majority of you have upgraded from a previous version of WordPerfect. We don't spend a lot of time on basics--there are other books (with titles that insult your intelligence level) that cover that ground. We'll explain what a feature is, but more importantly, we'll tell you why you want to use it. What's in it for you? How can it save you time?
Let me give you an example: templates are an awesome time-saving tool. They can free you from spending hours formatting and experimenting with different designs to achieve a professional appearance. We show you how to use the templates that come with WordPerfect right up front. Then we go right into showing you how to create your own templates--from your own documents, or by modifying the WP templates. From there, we talk about how to customize the templates to create a specialized working environment to cater to all different skill levels. We go beyond the most obvious uses of a feature and explore the hidden power.
To sum it all up, Read and I have drawn on our collective experiences of using and teaching WordPerfect for over a decade to show you how you can use the features more efficiently. This book is crammed full of tips, tricks and practical examples that you won't find anywhere else.
We've tried to make the text warm and inviting, even casual. The last thing we want to do is intimidate you! When you take a feature and break it up into easy to understand segments, even a timid user can grasp the significance . Thanks!
