Synopsis

This history details the acquisition and disbursement of the Narragansett Country, from the Indians to John Winthrop, Humphrey Atherton, Edward Hutchinson, William Hudson, Amos Richeson, Richard Smith Senior and Junior, John Tinker and others in 1659. Details are given regarding problems encountered by this company of men, the Proprietors of the Narragansett, as they attempted to divide, establish claims and settle this area. Each entry provides names, dates and the historical background of the event. The book also provides a detailed list of deeds, mortgages and land transactions until 1686. Divided into two parts, The Company Papers and The Fones Records, the book gives the reader easy access to information, including name, subject and place indices.
