Unless you're planning to enlarge your photographs to poster size, there's not much reason to use a film camera for everyday family and business photography. A digital camera enables you to get your pictures right onto your personal computer, where it's easy to edit them, post them to the Web, and distribute them by e-mail. Digital Photography! I Didn't Know You Could Do That... takes a beginner-at-the-viewfinder look at digital photography techniques. It's a good choice if you were given a digital camera as a gift and need to figure out what it can do, or if you're looking for project ideas.

This book stays away from recommending specific camera equipment, and similarly refrains from exploring model-specific camera features. The focus (pun intended) is on good all-purpose camera techniques (avoiding backlighting, arranging subjects) and on editing photos with Adobe PhotoDeluxe (a copy of which appears--without a time limitation--on this book's companion CD-ROM). PhotoDeluxe documentation fills much of this book, with specific instructions for achieving desired effects and a colour section that illustrates techniques. --David Wall
